The BRTN is one of 22 General Practice Education and Training Organisations across Australia. Established in 2002, it is funded by the Commonwealth Government.

Key Stakeholders

  • Three Divisions of General Practice - Albury Wodonga Regional GP Network, North East Victorian Division and Goulburn Valley Division
  • Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine
  • BRTN Registrars
  • Major regional hospitals in Shepparton, Wangaratta, Wodonga and Albury
  • Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
  • Rural Clinical Schools attached to Melbourne University at Shepparton and the University of NSW at Albury

Registrars

Selection of Registrars into BRTN is a competitive process administered centrally by General Practice Education and Training (GPET). Registrars come to the Region for three to four years completing their first year in local hospitals. During the basic and advanced terms, training takes place in BRTN teaching practices. The third year is either a further 12 months in General Practice in the Region or six months General Practice and six months Special Skills. An optional fourth year is Advanced Rural Skills.

Whats new?

GP’s still needing to complete Mental Health Skills Training in order to claim under MBS Item number 2710 may wish to complete this online. The General Practice Association of Geelong (GPAG) have an online training module which has been made available to GP’s in this region. The training consists of 18 modules delivered in four parts (total training time approximately 6.1 hours).

GP’s will first need to fax the registration (including name, phone number and CPD number) to the GP Association on 03 5223 3309. You will then be allocated a password to commence the training.   A new password will be allocated on completion of each module to allow you to proceed the next module.  There are 18 modules to complete.  The ‘code word’ revealed by the final module is reported back to GPAG and a certificate of completion is issued.

Download a registration form here or go to the GPAG website to access the training and registration form
