MEDICAL OBJECTS (ePIT)
PATIENT INFORMATION TRANSFER
Electronic, Encapsulated, Encrypted
ePit is a tool designed to enable two health professionals to communicate with each other as they share the care of a patient. 23 sites are using ePit within the AWRGP Network area as at May 07.
ePit simplifies the task of getting a patient care report from word processor in one clinic, into an electronic health record in another ePIT clinic, using normal internet email for speed, economy and strong public key encryption to protect patient privacy. The sending end ePit requires minimal operator input(identification of recipient and patient) and the receiving requires no operator activity (as per Pathology and Imaging reports)
ePit make use of the 'line of trust' established between two health professionals, and is thus able to bypass the complexity and costs of systems requiring third party certification.
